Program offerings include competencies in
the generation, transformation, and use of electricity.
Troubleshooting and problem solving skills are developed
in electrical motor controls, industrial electronics, fluid
power, and programmable logic controllers, and process control.
The electrical industry has job opportunities in many areas.
These areas range from maintenance technician in a manufacturing
plant (maintain and monitor electrical and electronic equipment
for process control) to electrical construction. (The fabrication,
installation and calibration of electrical equipment and
components in commercials and industrial environments.)
Students are given the opportunity to enhance their learning experience
in the construction field through apprenticeship training
with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
International. The Brotherhood interviews applicants from
the College quarterly for apprenticeship training.
Electrical Technology students experience their chosen field
through co-op and internships with area chemical and power
production facilities, electrical contractors and manufacturers.
Students are encouraged to join the College's student section
of the International
Society for Measurement and Control (ISA). This nonprofit
organization offers students the opportunity to build on
knowledge learned in the classroom and compete with other
students nationally and internationally.
